I have Nikon prostaffs in everything right now. Looking to upgrade on the tikka 30"06 I'm getting. Leupold vx3 and ziess Terra have caught my eye. What do y'all recommend?

leupold vx3. light, trim, attractive and bright. best warranty and best resale out there. 3.5-10x40

zeiss conquest 3.5-10x44

those are optically nice scopes, but at almost 18 0z they will smother a diminutive Tikka rifle. plus I don't think it would fit in low rings

Hard to say one way or the other. Ziess has the edge on clarity and light transmission. Leupold are to me more solid. I choose Leupold on everything. If I was building a varmint rifle though and heat and mirage played into factor it might be a Zeiss.

The Nikon Monarch rests atop of my Winchester Extreme weather SS in 270 WSM. 3x12x42, if memory serves me correctly. Love it!

A friend of mine in the sheriff's office turned me on to them. I put one on my daughter's 257 Magnum and she loves it. I plan to get another next year for a 240 and will replace my original Weatherby 44mm scope on it. Only Weatherby scope that I have seen in over 2 decades.

Vortex Viper. Glass is same as Nightforce. Best value out there. Nothing else close.

I have heard good things about them, but just not familiar enough with the name yet. If you buy one, buy used. There resale isn't real strong and you can buy a like new scope, really discounted. what my buddy does, and he loves em

Where did you get low rings from? The original post says nothing about height or weight being an issue. I am old and get biger objectives and better galss as I need it more than some. I usually shoot longer than most also. Or at least I try. Not near as steady as I once was so I almost always use a rest now . That little extra light later in the day and early in the morning comes in handy. I don't own a Tikka so I wouldn't know about it being so slight.

Larger objectives are really not the end all for low light.

Quality of lens is far more important. Also lower power works much better for low light.

For instance a 2x7x32 set on 2x wil be brighter at dusk than a 6x18x56 set on its lowest power.

Everything is a trade off.

I much prefer a low power scope with a 32 or 40mm obj over a heavy clunky large objective scope that will make the rifle unbalanced and awkward.

I have 2 Vortex Vipers and another on the way. They will make you wonder why people spend so much on a Zeiss. Warranty is unbelievable.

absolutely. what sense is a light gun, if you put the a 2 pound hubble telescope on it. the vx 3 2.5-8x36 is my favorite scope

The tikka lite (which I gathered was the gun he wanted from another one of his posted) are a light trim gun, around 6.5 pounds/ they also have a very low comb, which makes warrants a lowly mounted scope for proper eye position.
