my farthest is 90 yards through woods. always been dead on and a killing machine, and dropped many. I passed on a 140 s 8 pt with a 8 inch droptine 17.5 inside. had him at 135 yards decided to film not shoot because he was just walking farther away when I saw him. neighbors wife shot him 2 weeks later 200 yards from our property line. just curious about average range

Farthest ever for me was about 130 yards. I would have been OK going a bit farther, but I only used a 4X scope for the first 15 years of its use.

15 yards, on opening morning this year. Last yet on opening morning, 8 yards. :D but I've only killed 2 deer with a rifle. I sighted mine in to about 1" high at 65 yards so I will kill a deer to 100 yards. But really I prefer the close range shots.

its the only rifle I've ever shot a deer with since I was 13 been 10 years and 27 bucks down with it. been burned a lot though I have passed on several big big deer that are too far . always thought about buying a new rifle but just don't like shooting far and I love the 3030

I took a free standing shot at 125 yards Thanksgiving day 2004, dropped him in his tracks, factory load.

Seen a buddy of mine kill a buck at over 400-yards with a Winchester model 94, iron sites. Of course it took 7 shots, I was spotting for him. 3 feet low, two feet to the right and so on. We were hunting in Middle Tennessee in January, in the snow. The buck was across a huge clear cut, every shot would kick up snow so I could tell where he was hitting. The deer never new where the shots were coming from so never run off. The 7th shot dropped him in his tracks. Jeff said he held about a foot above the deers back. Of course this was when we were young and stupid, I would never attempt a shot like this today.

156 with a Winchester model 94 open sights and hornady leverevolution shells. First rifle and still pack it at times.

I have a Winchester Model 94 and shoot 150 core-lokts and I do not have a scope on mine. I shot one between 90-100 yds in 2001 or 02 in the neck and dropped him dead. I have only shot a few deer with it and all have died relatively quick.

200 Yds give or take a few for me pulled the trigger And she was belly up aimed dead on 150gr core lokt they will perform more then what most people think

I killed a 9 point with a 30-30 Marlin at just over 200 yards. Pulled off and hit high (I was 13 at the time). Broke his back and he dropped where he stood.

When I was around 9-10 I shot at one that was around 1/2 mile away, 6 shots later it still stood there looking, didn't even scare him. My dad kicked my but for doing it.

lol, 100 yrds is close range !

I watched my Dad shoot a coyote at probly 175 yrds. when I was younger. I shot twice and missed then handed the gun to him. Took him 2 shots before he dropped him. Kind of felt bad for the yote though. Idiot just stood there the whole time. Probly knew we were shooting a 30-30 and figured we couldn't reach that far lol.

I've killed 7 deer so far since I started hunting and the longest shot was less than 25 yards and that was with a bow. Ill kill one out to 100 w the 30-30 but haven't had the chance yet or been burned by a good deer just out of gun range. Only been hunting a couple years though

I love these threads. Like the one on another forum where a guy killed a turkey at 87 yards. When did people become so bloodthirsty that they take unethical shots then brag about it? I wonder if that's why the forums are full of stories about "lost" deer?

BTW, I understand the OP was looking for advice and asking a legitimate question. My answer would be get out on the range and shoot different yardages and when you stop making kill shots every time you've reached your limit.
yep I like to get closer to my prey. Part of that is because I'm not a good shot at longer distances (nowhere near home to shoot a gun) but I like being close to the deer where every move and sound you make matters.

I would'nt go past 150 with a scope on my lever action pwersonally. I took the scope off last year and now wont shoot past 70. I like them in close. :D
