Vandy Considered Scheduling an Extra Game in Pursuit of a CFB Playoff Bid

The desperation comes across as lacking in dignity. The possibility of a bid as the season progressed was new and intoxicating territory for the Commodores, but "Act like you've been there before" comes to mind.
Kinda hard when they haven't. 😂😂😂

And yes it was absolute desperation and an embarrassing look for Lea.

I told someone yester that of all the top 10 teams Vandy could probably beat Oregon.
This is exactly what I've been saying about this watered down playoff schedule and you just confirmed what I have been saying. You could make a argument for this team or that team to get in. You could even make a argument to expand it out to 18 teams. But in the end these teams your making a argument for are NOT the teams that are going to WIN the national championship.

It was watered down with 4 teams. They should just vote on it and send the trophy in the mail. UPS through Memphis.

Last years system worked exactly how it was supposed to. All the bottom feeders got blown out like they were supposed too. The Texas game was a real nail biter

I can't help but think one of these years a team that's hot all season. I'll give the example this season like OSU gets pitted against maybe ND and ND gets lucky and beats them . Then ND advances and gets boat raced the next round. Have we really seen the true NC ? IDK one game does not define a NC

I heard on the radio this morning a guy saying what college football needs is to do away with the conferences/ conference championships, divide in to 2 divisions( like the NFL) with 2 tiers and have 2 playoffs and 2 champions.......If that happens I will defiantly be done with college ball, I'm shaky now.

My solution is to do away with the playoff altogether, have the coaches and wire services vote as in the past and have the controversy on everyone's minds any talked about from the end of one season to the beginning of the next. It's what kept college ball on everybody's radar 24/7/365 and what made it so fun. But of course there's not as much money in that system so we can forget that, it's all about money now.

Actually 1 game does define a NC? What in the actual fk are you talking about? How many years has the team that dominated all year got beat in the NC? It's been a lot. You think a 1 ranking makes you the best on Saturday?

If one is going to be done with something, I suppose it's not unreasonable to be defiant about it. That'll show 'em.

"I get what you mean, but I think part of the charm is that they haven't been there before. When a team suddenly finds itself in the mix, a bit of overexcitement is almost inevitable. Maybe it looked desperate, but it also showed how much it meant to them.

Yeah, that idea would pretty much kill what makes college football special. The regional rivalries, the conferences, the quirks — that's the whole identity of the sport. If it turns into an NFL-lite setup with divisions and tiers, a lot of longtime fans would check out. I'm already struggling with all the changes as it is.

If it would have meant a little more maybe they would've beat Alabama!

The "March Madness" college basketball championship may be the best, and possibly the hardest, tournament to win in all of American sports.

The NCAA seems to be trying to do the same with football but should probably expand again to 16 teams using essentially the same selection criteria and seeding methods but eliminate first round byes for the top 4 teams. This would keep them from having to add another weekend to the tournament...it would simply require those 4 to play, and win, the same number of games as the other 12 teams in the tournament.

Fans of team number 17 will still be butt hurt...just like plenty of college basketball fans are every year...teams left 'on the bubble' just need to schedule tougher games and / or win more...

Probably. But ALABAMA was not going to overlook Vandy or take them for granted. Not this year. Pavia was just gonna have to settle for going into Pilot stadium and lighting it up in there.
