The hunting guide states it is illegal to use dogs to "take or attempt to take deer" or "to take or attempt to take a deer being pursued by dogs".

I assume being "pursued" would mean shooting a deer being chased by a dog, whether it was somebodys dog that just chased a deer by you by chance or it was a hunt using dogs to chase them.

But would "to take or attempt to take" mean using a dog to track a deer you've wounded and can't find?

Just wondering?

The agency has an enforcement procedure dealing with the enforcement of that law that allows for the use of tracking dogs under certain conditions. It requires you to notify your regional office prior to tracking and giving the office information where the tracking will be done. The dog must be kept on a leash. Only weapons legal for that season may be carried. If it is outside of legal shooting hours weapons may not be carried. And permission of other landowners must be obtained before entering their property.
