I have always waited until Mid October before using my grunt call. I am always trying to learn more about deer, and recently read an article that stated that bucks are very territorial in the early season, trying to figure out what their territory is. A young buck grunt will usually bring him in, so he can show who is the boss. So Saturday morning I noticed a big 8 feeding on acorns walking away from me. I grunted at him a few times, and to my surprise, he came at a full sprint to 26 yards. Seems like something you would see in November. Happened so quickly, I rushed my shot, and sailed right over his back. Hopefully this helps some guys, dont be afraid to use your grunt call, just make sure it is set on young buck. Do not snort weeze this early int he year, btw. I tried that Saturday afternoon and another big buck didnt want anything to do with it. Happy hunting!
