I would like to see a 2 buck limit for rifle and muzzleloader,and 1 additional for archery.Make the doe limit 4 per season.I don't bow hunt,so that would automatically cut me, and others like me, back to a potential of only 2 bucks per season.If someone needs more than 4 does for the freezer,let them apply for additional permits.

Or maybe because its only hunted 2 weekends a year so there is almost no pressure AND its in the middle of the rut.

Just a little proof that they can be killed when they get older.

That is "noteworthy", to say the least.
By the way, my opinion, the difficulty of hunting skill needed for regularly killing an older buck has been vastly overstated. It's really more an issue of their existing in relatively small numbers (at least in most of TN), making the task "seem" more difficult. While the hunting tactics needed to regularly take older bucks (particularly mature ones) are a little different, they are not necessarily that much more difficult or challenging to kill, mostly little more than having the intestinal fortitude to pass up those "nice" bucks the "nicer" bucks tend to come along behind.

The exact point I was trying to make and someone called "BS".... I am glad someone agrees with me. Mature bucks are not hard to kill where they are plentiful, during the rut and with a rifle.

5. A 15-20% success rate equates "lack of difficulty" (I'd say you'd need to be showing success rates closer to 40 or 50% to show that such a pursuit is indeed not difficult, but that's just speculation).

To me thats a pretty good success rate for what 3 days hunting and one day scouting, which most hunters have never stepped foot on the island I presume? Top that off that its archery only. Now I think some stats stating shot opportunity within archery range and rifle range would be neat to see.

All that said I agree that PI is a unique place, just like when my granddad used to help with the youth hunt at Ft Campbell when they had it inside the bird cage...totally different animal than 99% of hunters would ever experience. Its just the not real world.

Are KY hunters more skilled that they can kill 29% 3.5 or older bucks and TN hunters can only kill 18% 3.5 or older bucks. We are continually told in TN that if you let them walk, when they are young, they will not show up in the harvest years later. Yet in KY they do show up in the harvest.

You can always leave Tennessee and hunt in Kentucky if you want.

Another interesting stat from KY--where everyone passes up bucks until they are monsters--the wildlife agency reported that in 2012, 1/3 of all antlered bucks killed were yearlings. I think the 2014 stats for TN are going to come in pretty close to that as well.

So much for a 1 buck limit influencing hunters to pass up young bucks.

In 2012 KY killed 32% 1.5 year old bucks
In 2012 TN killed 44% 1.5 year old bucks

12% is a pretty big gap

And if you look at the trend the gap has been getting wider since 2010. Could it be that the statewide 3 buck limited imposed about that time started that trend.

People up there don't think twice about passing up a 2.5 y/o 10pt that pushes 120...

Really? So why is it--by the KY's own admission--that over 70% of the antlered bucks killed in their state each year are 2 1/2 or younger? I thought everybody up there passes every non-booner they see?

How does KY get their age data? I have never seen a game check point.

KY gets their age data exactly the same way TN does.......Meat processors!
Of course in TN, you can add the age when checking in online or tell Mohammed at the Seven/Eleven how old the deer is.
