10-22 carbine??single shot bolt action,,

if you were lookin for a 22 for substance shooting what would you get,,preferrablly v notch rear sight with a fin dot post front sight,,what would you want for killin deer at night, squirrels and rabbits anytime ,,I want a 10-22 but think a singleshot bolt or clip feed bolt would be better,,and maybe a 2-7x scope,,

Neither of those would be my choice for a subsistance rifle. I'd use the rifle I bought as a teenager---Marlin 39a lever action. It will feed CB caps, short, long, or long rifle and magazine capacity is 17 with the long rifles and I don't know how many of the shorts. It also has a long sight radius if you're planning on using iron sights. I've got a bolt and a 10/22 but this would be my choice to keep only one. Price nowadays would be about twice the price of what you could get the other two though. Mine was $89.95, but that was quite a few years ago.

22 mag bolt action ,big enuf to take most game in a survival situation,mike243

I think a bolt action CZ with the existing iron sights would be the way to go. You could start off with a scope but if that went south just take it off and you have the sights. The CZs are well made-basically all steel and wood. You can still get a steel mag but they are starting to make some plastic ones too.

I bought a CZ 'Farmer' last year for $220 I think that ought to last 2-3 lifetimes with normal care. The Farmer version has a standard trigger, beech stock, and iron sights but it is grooved for a scope. It comes with a plastic 5 round mag but CZ sells a steel version. Plateau Hunter

Darn good choice as well.

I would take a good tube fed lever action 22 for an all around 22. LR, longs, and shorts can be fired through it, and its more reliable than a semi. A tube fed bolt action would be nice as well. Make mine a Win 9422, Browning BL 22 or the Marlin 39A.

My tube fed Remington bolts & pump are my most accurate, and reliable. These would be my choice with my model 12 pump being the #1 choice for me even with the semi autos I have, including my AR7.
Tried and True killers that I cut my shooting teeth on.

my marlin 39. browning lever action 22. maybe marlin md 60.
too many to choose from.

The AR-7 still gets my vote! When you need to walk around town without toting a long-gun the AR-7 will stow easily in my pack. If I lose a magazine it will still function as a single shot with a single round thumbed into the chamber! Certainly not the most accurate rimfire but it will hit a squirrel in the head/body up close!
