I have been informed recently of a few things.

1. If you own any land, even if it's a city lot around your house in town, you are a land owner and you don't have to buy a license to hunt in Tn.
2. If a land owner kills a deer any where in Tn they don't have to bother with tagging it because of the landowner exemption!
3. If your family owns any land you get to hunt as a land owner even if you don't live in TN!
4. If you have private land to hunt you get to hunt under the land owners exemption even if your a friend visiting from another state.

Apparently there is a lot of people, resident and nonresident, that hunt this way without ever buying any license or tagging anything. I don't know if the guys was that ignorant of the laws or just used it as an excuse not to pay for a license and tags!

TWRA makes plenty of cases on this every year but would probably appreciate any info you had on folks hunting this way.

Hardwoodmaterials, are you sure those points are accurate? I am a land owner. I tag deer, and my exemption only counts to my parcels of land (or so I thought). I can hunt my parents property, but my children can only until they are 16.

I could have been wrong the whole time, just curious. I have also never hunted whitetail deer on any other piece of land other than my own and my parents. Technically, I have never had to purchase a license, but I do every year.

NO! All of those things are illegal! I got caught up in that conversation and was told I wasted money buying a lifetime license since I own property in Tn! I was just pointing out how ignorant some are of the land owner exemption.
