May be the wrong forum but I figured you guys would know best. Anybody have a good recipe or cooking method for wild turkey thighs.
 
A couple of ways...boiling takes 3 to 5 hours, pressure cooker a lot faster, or you can smoke them, wrap in foil and slow cook for several hours. Basically you want them cooked till the meat falls off the bone. Otherwise it's very tough. When boiling, I add carrots, onions, celery, salt and pepper to the water. And save the water, it's a great broth for soup or whatever.

Once they are cooked, you pick up the leg bone and meat starts to fall off, you know it's ready. Pull it like pork, be sure to remove the spindles from the drumsticks. Toss in a skillet with BBQ sauce, it makes some great sandwiches.

Turkeys are delicious all around, just takes extra work for the tough parts.

Crock pot legs and thighs in stock and mexican spices til it falls off the bone. pull out the leg splinters, shred, and crisp up in a little oil in a skillet. Good tacos.
 
Get on over to honest-food.net and lookup his turkey carnitas. One of the best recipes I've made with them. Works great for the drumsticks too if you braise them longer.
 
I eat everything. Breast, wings, legs, and thighs. I make what we call perloo, with my thighs and legs. Also will make fa jitas with them from time to time. Braise them off in a dutch oven for a couple of hours and they will pull apart real easy. Fine eatin ;)

Fun fact... turkeys killed on private farms, or by fanning or decoys, taste just as good as public land birds. I speak from experience...
 
I like to boil them till the meat comes off the bones and spindles easily. Hit with a mallet a couple of times, season, flour, and fry. Very very good!
 
Glad y'all posted this. I've never been able to cook them good. My dog usually won't even eat them. I've tried several times and failed miserably. But I also don't like throwing them away.

Maybe so,but hunting "pets" with fans and decoys is still for commanders ;)
 
I crockpot mine with garlic salt. Once cooked, I debone them, and the sinews until all the meat is back in the water. I transfer to a big pot and bring it to boil. I then add frozen egg noodles or dumplings, and corn or peas if you like, my kids devour it. al
 
Braise them and use them in carnitas. Authentic as you can get with a turkey, turkeys are Mexican and therefor the best part (thigh) should be honored in a South of the border manner.
