I've never done any trout fishing, but if all goes as planned I am going to try to go this weekend. I was curious how you cook them, so what's your best trout recipes?

I grew up on the banks of Adirondack trout streams, ponds and lakes.

We would clean the fish, head on or off.......your choice.

dredge the washed fish in a mixture of flour, garlic powder, salt & pepper.

Then melt butter in a large cast iron skillet and cook the trout over a med. heat until the outside was light golden brown and the fish was fall apart tender.

The meat will fall off the bones when done.

Darn good stuff

What FDXX75 said. Trout prepared that way and catfish prepared any way, are the only 2-species of fish that I actually enjoy eating.

Fried trout is great.

I also like trout stuffed with orange or lemon and dill and grilled.

Smoked is great too if you crisp the skin at the end.

I don't really have recipes. I just throw it together.

skin em,then fry em,make sure you run a knife up the inner back bone & remove the mud streak before you cook it,grilled with lemon & lemon pepper on it is also good,mike243

they are all from the same family line.

The taste will vary just like any other animal, whether it is natural or farm raised, feed quality and so on.

Rainbows are more of a pink flesh fish such as the salmon. Where brook, brown, speckled and lake trout are more white flesh.

Most if not all restaurant fish is farm raised and taste nothing like a natural feed fish, I think most farm raised taste blan.

i've eat small browns that had very pink meat & they do taste a lot like salmon to me but i dont eat much salmon so unless i had both side x side i might not know the diffrence if cooked the same, some of the cooking shows show cutting lines thru the trout & puting slices of lemon & a sprig of rosemary ect in it then grilling or frying,i havent tried that but might if i catch a mess the next time i go,crappie season is about to get rite so its going to be awhile :) ,mike243
