Around Christmas time, I'm going to be staying in a cabin for a little while in North Georgia. The cabin is right on the bank of Fightingtown Creek.

I've never heard of Fightingtown Creek. The cabin website says it's spectactular trout fishing, but 99% of the time sites like that are pretty full of you-know-what and you have to take them with a grain of salt.

Has anyone fished Fightingtown Creek? Any information about it would be appreciated.

Winter fishing for trout once you get away from the tailwaters can be tough, but what the heck, I'm there anyway, so I'm going to give it a try.

Back in the day, Fighting Town held big trout. I would say it still does. It's mostly private land so doesn't get hammered like most streams. I would go with high expectations!

Fighting Town Creek holds some great trout fishing! I am orginally from Blue Ridge, Ga which has to be in the general area of where your staying. I havent fished it in a couple years but the last time I was able to we caught some great fish. I believe a friend and I landed a ton of smaller fish and 4 fish that were around the 20 inch mark. Depending on what type of fishing you are planning on doing I would def. use some darker streamers fly fishing and typically there is a big hatch of cadis around there. Though, I have had great luck using a rainbow colored rooster tail. In fact the exact model number is(206RBOW-TUX)....Just be aware of where you are fishing around there the land owners can be a bit protective of "their fish".

I just learned that a lot of trout water in North Georgia is "closed" in the winter. I'm not used to closed fishing seasons in the South!!!

Will Fightingtown creek be open for fishing around Christmas, or do I need to just plan on doing something else instead?

GA has a lot of water that is closed certain months of the year like B.D. said. Used to live there and you have to watch very closely what is and is not open in the winter.

It looks like we have wound up booking a cabin on Mountaintown Creek instead of Fightingtown Creek.

If anyone knows anything about this other creek, let me know.

Otherwise, I guess I'll be putting up a post after Christmas for whoever goes there next. :)
