Anyone have trouble getting a spent primer out of their savage? I have had my savage for several years and have struggled with this from the first time I shot it.

Yep. 209 primers. To tell the truth I've been carrying an old nocking plier to take the old primer out.

They make a 209 cap remover. I picked one up the other day. My Remington gets tight after shooting a few rounds.Cleaned it good and it's loosen up now.

Use to, especially with Winchester brand primers. If the primer sticks after firing it just lift the bolt handle and close it to recock the striker. Then dry fire it on the spent primer. You should then be able to open the bolt, turn the gun to the side and the spent primer should fall right out. Some 209 primer heads seem to be a little "softer" then others and deform slightly in the bolt especially with some powder loadings. Try the dry fire trick first. Good luck....

You shouldn't need a tool for the Savage. The Remington and the Savage use totally different type systems. On the Remington the primer is manually inserted inside the breech plug. On the Savage the primer is retained by a clip system on the bolt face. By working the bolt the primer is inserted and withdrawn from the breech. The primer should never come off the bolt face.

Mine used to stick with winchester primers also. Just chocolate chip cookie and pull the trigger again. Mine eventually stopped doing it.
