Anybody in East TN currently have a good tracking dog to find shot deer? A buddy of mine had a really good one that had found almost 100 deer over the last several years but he died last Spring. Reason I ask is the need for one was hammered home yesterday when Ryan my 14 yr old shot a Whopper of a buck, and after 4 hrs looking until dark yesterday we still dont have him! He has bled profusely at times, and then like turing a faucet off he will quit for distancs of 150 yards only to do the same thing again. He finally went about 100 yards with only 3 small drops of blood before making it to a 5-7 yr old clear cut that is impenetrable. Its sickening but we havent totally gave up yet and will be back this afternoon looking for him! The rain didnt and isnt helping matters either. It rained for about another 30 ins after he shot him yesterday, and has rained a fair amount since then!

good luck. there isn't a creek on the other side of the clear cut by chance? my buck ran through some nearly impenetrable stuff headed straight for the water and died right on a sand bar. If you can take a machete or something and whack through it I guess it's better than not going into the clear cut at all. Hope you find a dog or find the deer yourself, whichever comes first.

As a last resort, I would find ANY dog that I thought was capable of tracking (hound, lab, etc), call Regional office to make them aware, put the dog on a leash and proceed with the search efforts. Best of luck Scott, hope y'all can find him for Ryan.

Good point. I had a lab that I would oftentimes feed leftover meat from a kill. She had a nose (and a taste) for deer blood.

See TN Larry's post. That was the site I listed on Catman's thread about needing a tracking dog.

Best of luck, man. I know how frustrating that situation can be, and it's even worse when it's your child.

Thanks Larry, just spoke to a very nice lady whose closest to me. Unfortunately she has recently lost her old dog and only has a 10 month old pup currently, but was stil willing to come and try. Its been 48 hours already so it would be a longshot.
