I personally dip while I'm in the stand, and even spit down the side of the tree. And I have never had a deer act in a negative way because of it. I have actually had them stop and dig around and lick where I had spit. just curious how many others do? And if it has ever got anyone busted?

Forget about whether it scares the deer or not, quit now for your health my friend. Just tell yourself it spooks the deer, that will give you a good excuse to quit! It's tough, I know. I quit smoking and dipping years ago. Dipping was much tougher to quit than smoking...but I am so glad I did now.

You ain't kidding its hard to stop I stopped smoking pretty easy but dipping is 10x harder I tried but I always give in its more of a boredom thing for me when im not doing anything cause when I get home and im chasing my boys around the house or yard I never think of having a dip in but i am scared to death something will show up cause I do dip and im almost at my breaking point with it cause for my boys to lose their dad to what my 4 yr old calls nasty worm dirt is not worth it I regret even starting it so with the good Lord's help and my God fearing strong willed wife im going to tackle this nasty habit

And to answer your question no I haven't seen a negative response to it besides when im digging through my bag looking for it and I get busted

I don't chew, but I've actually seen guys drop Redman on the ground as they walk to thier stand and have deer walk that exact path smelling/eating the leaves as they went.

There is no way I could sit for three or four hours without a dip. Things get interesting when I can't spit after a deer walks up and decides to stick around for a while.

Not pointing blame or judgment on anybody, but I dont think there is one thing in this world, other than breathing, that I cant go for 3 or 4 hours without. Honestly, I dont like the idea of anything, other than God, having that much control over me.

Good post, Pastor.

I have dipped for years on stand and only had one doe act funny i was dipping mint and spitting on the ground and wind was blowing in her face u could tell she spelled something but didnt spook. Now i dont dip as of 3months ago when my friend got mouth cancer and has to go evey 3 months and get cut in the mouth for a biopsy and get 4 stitches so i decided to stop cold Turkey

I dip in the stand all the time. Never seemed to spook any deer. It is a hard habit to kick. Especially when you are bored.

I really dont think it bothers them. I like to hunt on the ground and I will useally spit in the dirt beside me. I cant count the number of times I have came back to a place I have hunted and see deer tracks where I was sitting.

I quit by taking the money I saved and put it toward deer hunting. That has bought me a bunch of cams, camo, and stands.next year its taking me to ky. its 95% phycological, maybe this will help someone else

But jolly ranchers and dip don't mix! So I quit the jolly ranchers.

 lol

I gave up dip for a few months this summer.. but when sitting in the stand on a cool morning, something just feels right about it. Skoal Mint for me..

I've never known it to spook a deer.. but then again the ones that pick up your scent and avoid you are the ones you don't see!

Dipped for years and dipped in stand. The dip never bothered any deer. Now me moving around to get my dip out of bag or moving to spit, that's a different story. Spit down the side of the tree all the time.

I dunno How you guys do it. I have tried to leave one in twice so far today but each time it makes me wanna drop a loaf. :(

Oh, come on guys you cant kiss a pretty girl with that in your mouth! But i do understand. It would be a healthy choice. My husband has chew the whole time we have been married. That will soon be 25 years, i dont think he has ever had any problems with the deer.although i cant say that i like it!

There aint no pretty girls 25ft up in the tree with me. If they were we wudnt be hunting.

I let it fly to. Sounds just like a acorn falling so it prob brings em in.

That depends on how much you want to decrease your odds of seeing any deer that are down wind....It all depends on the wind....thats all.
