I did a search and couldn't find it so, I'm gonna put it here, and if it's a dupe, Mods feel free to delete.

I was searching around for the laws in TN for open carry on privately owned property as well as property you might work on. For those of us that DO NOT have a carry permit.

My search yielded [color:#FF0000]Tenn. Code Ann. 39-17-1308[/color], which is exactly what I was looking for. Don't know if this has been covered here or not in the past. But here it is.

You can go to this link --> Linky and look it up yourself and save a copy for future reference.

So for those of us that like to carry a sidearm with us while hunting on our own properties, as long as you are on YOUR property. It is perfectly legal to do so in an OPEN carry manner. That means, it cannot be in your backpack, on your belt under your shirt, or in your boot hidden from sight. It HAS to be out in the open for god and country to see.

If you feel as though I'm wrong, say so, and correct me. So I don't screw myself.

I am not a lawyer and this does not constitute legal advise.

Its a lot simpler to get a carry permit & take it with you any way you want/need to imo,but good info for the folks what dont want their name on any kind of a list

The statute you posted does not require you to open carry on your own property; (1) and (3) both stand alone.

You're right, no one is REQUIRED to open carry on their property! I didn't say or post that. You don't have to carry at all. If you DO NOT have a carry permit and you want to carry openly on your land, it's nice to know that you can legally. In the state of TN open carry is only legal with a CCW permit. Knowing that, I wanted to know if that stood on ones own property. This statute is in defense of the person open carrying a weapon.

If I understand you, what you're saying is conceal carry is legal on private property as long as you own the property. Correct? From my understanding, in TN conceal carry ANYWHERE requires a permit.

I agree, to many dang rules!

I'm confused... Am I reading that's it's illegal for me to walk around the house with it in my pocket if I don't have a permit?

That's the law in TN, from my understanding.

You said, and I quote:

"So for those of us that like to carry a sidearm with us while hunting on our own properties, as long as you are on YOUR property. It is perfectly legal to do so in an OPEN carry manner. And I correctly said, the statute does not require open carry. If you are on your own property, you can carry, concealed or openly, without a permit.

Incidentally, it's a Handgun Carry Permit, or HCP, not a CCW.
