that's awesome. A friend of mine's grandson has killed a gobbler the last 3 seasons with a NEF .410 with a fixed full choke. 1st year he shot off the bead and then I had it drilled and tapped for him so he could use a red dot. 1st 2 years he shot lead shot and last year his dad switched him over to TSS and that changed his world. another friend I grew up with (many years ago) use to hunt with a 10ga double. ran into him a couple years ago on one of our old stomping grounds and he was toting a 301 in .410 I wouldn't have never imagined that a .410 would ever be seen in the spring turkey woods but with the new ammo and chokes they are VERY effective.

I picked up a Stevens 301 the other day.

Yesterday with Browning #9's at 35yds - 155 in the 10"

I polished the barrel with a drill, scotch brite pad and valve grinding compound for 100 passes. Then I cleaned it out and did 50 passes with a patch and mother's polish. I cleaned it out and shot again today.

180 in the 10" at 36yds, so I picked up 25 pellets. I moved my dot to center the pattern and called it good.

Hard to believe 410's are shooting like this.

REMI, that is incredible improvement!!!!

Great job! Much more even after the polishing.

Thanks

I've done probably 6-8 different guns like that.

I've done both of my 870's and my 835. My old 835 picked up about 50 pellets after I polished out a big gouge in the bore.

My guns have picked up 10-20% after a polish and the pattern is more even.

Now you are making me want to attack my new 12g!

Do you wrap the scotch Brite pad on a wooden dowel chucked into your drill? Low speed im assuming??

Polish the choke as well?

I use a cleaning rod

I punch the primers out and drop a 20 gauge shell cut down inside a 12 gauge as a stop so I'm not polishing the chamber .

If you have one of the 3/8" shogun rods just drill out the primer pockets

I have a big 1/2" craftsman drill. Once I get the scotch brite started and in the bore, shell/stop in place, I just flat mat the trigger and pin in wide open for 100 passes. I clean it all out, replace the scotch brite combo with something that will hold a patch loaded with mothers and flat mat it again for 50-100 passes.

Perfect! TY!!!

I literally got my 12g backup gun a few days before season opened. Patterned it at 30y, been hunting nonstop since season opened. Once I get some free time, I'll shoot it at 40 and polish the barrel and shoot again.

My stevens 301 in a 410 is the last gun I will carry for turkeys.
Like carrying an air soft rifle w no recoil
Pattern is incredible
Stinks tss has gotten so expensive but I believe I have enough for my lifetime
If run out I would be 1 happy turkey hunter
