I haven't delved into the world of cellular cameras yet....I am thinking about taking the plunge with a Covert 3g code black cam. Anyone own one of these? Opinions and any info/pros/cons appreciated!

I have 3 of them. They work well and I'm glad I didn't wait to purchase them. It all depends on the signal type and strength that exists in your area. The right type of signal with good signal strength will yield good results. Poor signal strength and/or the wrong type of signal will not. It's no different than using a mobile phone in the country. Some places it works good, some places it works ok, some places it works lousy, and some places it doesn't work at all.

I have two and my buddy has five. Highly recommend them. I would invest the $30 in the antenna booster. It makes a world of difference even if you get a decent signal these will pretty much allow you to go anywhere. Watch the video on YouTube to set up the card and take the camera with you to the cellular service store to test everything before you leave. All you need is text only which for me through Att is $9.99 plus tax. Remember the sd card has some programming on it for the camera so you can't just switch it out with another card unless it's programmed as well. In the field you will want to point north or south or your phone will blow up with pics during the day with the sun. Fortunately you can turn the text function off or on via text message. I always try and get a pic on my phone before I leave the location just to make sure all is good. Best of luck. I don't use any other camera now.

Are you talking about the firmware update through the SD card ? If so , I'm pretty sure the camera updates when you do the process with the card and at that point you can remove the SD card and continue to swap them out like normal .

Thanks for all the info. I am excited about this "evolution" in trail cam technology. How exciting will that be to get text of pic of deer in almost real time! Awesome!

I am interested as well.my question is if the camera signal changes will it store the pictures.do they use sd cards too

Good question RCH. I would like to know that too.

I can only speak for the Covert. Yes, it uses a SDHC card and yes, it stores the pics on the SDHC card. In fact, a SDHC card is required for use.

Sorry if my post is what made you confused about that . The other guy made it sound like you had to keep a particular SD card at all times for the camera to operate . Which in my experience isn't correct . There is a firmware update for the 2014 code black that's is supposed to increase battery life and reduce whiteout pictures . Regarding the update , you have to download it from Coverts website onto an SD card and then put the SD card in the camera and follow the instructions to download it to the camera .

RCH , yes the camera operates like a normal trail camera . If the camera doesn't have service to send pictures it will store them to the card . I really like the ones that I have a lot .

YEP...I'm in! Just ordered my first Cellular cam! Wooohooo! I hope it brings me as much joy as the Hoyt Bow did! I will get your bow shipped later today, good Lord willing and shoot you tracking info.

Re: Thinking of ENTERING Cellular camera world - INFO? Opini

I could be wrong about the camera requiring the information on the card but since the information is saved on the card and then uploaded maybe it's not required but it seems I've had trouble with certain settings changing when I switched cards. Bottom line is I try to keep the same card going for each camera. But it may not be necessary.

Covert is coming out with a Verizon camera this year. If you going to pay full price I would wait. There are some good deals on last years models now

Really....where I hunt, I think ATT has better signal than Verizon (which is unusual in our area). I did get a REALLY good deal on last years model. I bought one new for $239 shipped. I thought that was a great deal.

Was a good price, only time will tell if you're pleased with the deal. :tu:

On the bright side, even should you end up using that Covert cellular cam as a non-cellular cam, worse-case scenario you paid $239 for the Extreme Black 60 (with cellular capability), since you can use that cam without using it's cellular feature.

Hopefully you'll have a good experience with the cellular feature. :)
