For some reason my backyard deer vacated the area almost all of deer season. I haven't seen over a dozen deer cross the backyard since archery season began. Not that I ever hunt them anyway but 2 days after the season closed and 18 crossed the backyard this morning.

I saw about 8 in a field at the edge of Bartlett this morning, whereas during the season I had only seen 2 or 3 at most, ever. Oddly enough, this was in an area that I think probably has essentially zero hunting going on, unless it's "on the sly".

I guess another explanation might be that the proverbial "second rut" is over, and now all of the deer in the area are truly going into their heavy grazing post-rut activity.

3 days after season I went small game hunting and bumped into deer everywhere. Wish the cold had come through before season closed.

My son drove thru Fayetteville Tn today and saw over 50 deer in one field and many deer bedded in the wide open around that area as if it were a game farm! He was astounded at the numbers along the road. :crazy:

Thank PETA for that. They drop off hunting guides to the deer every year.
