I know who he is only because a couple of guys at the office are Michigan State grads.

As for Spurrier he is the coach you love to hate. He always made statements to keep it interesting.

Wow, going out a quitter. I thought surely he would finish out the season. Nope, he's gone immediately!

I just hate that Butch couldn't be 3-0 against him.

I hope he wasn't worried about a Sarkisian-type deal going down with him. You never know.

So, who is the next washed-up coach out there that SC can go after :D ?

immediately? wonder if he's ill?
I was wondering if he had some health issues as well.

He did just hold a press conference earlyer this YEAR saying he was not going anywhere? And he was gonna coach like 4 more years! Kinda odd he didn't even make it through 1 season after saying that.

Speculation is the SC admin TOLD him that he would be retiring at the end of the season. And this is his response :D !

Would be classic Spurrier!

BTW :tu:

"But the real tragedy was that 15 hadn't been colored yet." - On fire at Auburn football dorm that destroyed 20 books

"I don't know. I sort of always liked playing them that second game because you could always count on them having two or three key players suspended." - On benefits of playing Georgia early

"You know what FSU stands for, don't you? Free Shoes University."

"You can't spell Citrus without U-T." - On the Vols missing out on the Sugar Bowl during his Florida years

"In 12 years at Florida, I don't think we ever signed a kid from the state of Alabama ... Of course, we found out later that the scholarships they were giving out at Alabama were worth a whole lot more than ours."

"In Knoxville they're still doing cartwheels because they went 7-6 and won a bowl." - Another classic shot at Tennessee

"People ask me why are you still coaching? I forgot to get fired and I'm not going to cheat." - On still coaching at age 70

I will miss his antics for sure. Spurrier is a big reason why the SEC is what it is today in football. He really changed the conference, and that change was furthered by Meyer, Saban, and Jones.

Couldn't help but throw a little tip o the cap to Butch. :smash:

Dantonio would be 180 degrees from Spurrier, both in terms of personality and coaching style. OSU's D coordinator for the 2002 NC. He is a very good coach and more successful at Sparty than was Saban and more successful in the B1G than either Saban or Bert. He's in his 9th season at MSU, he's 6-2 against scUM (but only 2-4 against OSU), he won the B1G championship in 2013, and he might be tired of always being second fiddle to scUM, regardless of record and actual championships (my how I hope Sparty beats scUM and fat pants and those insufferable scUM fans on Saturday). He would bring a strong defense, a strong running game to Columbia, but remember he's also got some QBs and WRs in the NFL. Rarely has Dantonio had a top 10 recruiting class, but IMO there is no coaching staff better at player development. Which school is top dog in that state, however? Clemson or South Carolina?

Overnight South Carolina would have the best football coach in the SEC. :smash:

great post until the end. He would do good in the SEC
he's 59 and makes 3.6 this year.

He should be their #1 target
