But look at the results of the draws since they began, SCN. Those that have been drawn have predominantly been from East Tennessee. I'd say at least 85% of them. And don't tell me that's because more East Tennessee hunters apply. It just seems that TWRA could do something to level the playing field in this draw to make it more equitable for all Tennessee hunters that would like to participate in the elk hunts. It almost seems like the West and Middle Tennessee applicants are being punished because elk weren't released in our part of the state, thanks to Farm Bureau.

Tell me you are joking. If you are serious, it really has an Obama level the playing field stance to it.

The drawing is entirely random and addresses are not associated with it at all. It is what it is. There is ZERO way that any group of hunters are receiving preferential treatment due to where they live.

So, you really think that TWRA should change their whole way of doing a quota draw to assure that someone from WTN is drawn?

Laughable.

Obama???? Really???? Not NO but Hell NO!!! And I'm not suggesting that the draw is rigged. What I'm saying is look at the successful hunters that have been drawn since the elk hunts started. They are predominantly from East Tennessee. And I congratulate them for getting drawn. It just seems that the application process could be tweaked to at least allow some of us West Tennessee hunters a more equitable chance of getting drawn. That's all I'm saying. And this is not a TWRA bashing thread. For the most part I think they do a great job without receiving any financial support from our legislature.

So, really, you are saying that TWRA SHOULD RIG the draw to make sure that someone from WTN is drawn rather than doing it totally at random where EVERY hunter has the same chance?

Sorry, that has a major liberal feel to me. It reminds me of when the libs talk about affirmative action where some segments of the population become more equal and favored than others.

What part of the fact that addresses have ZERO part of the current system do you not understand? It is done totally with random numbers.

And, whether you want to believe it or not, the results are pretty indicative of where most of the applications are coming from.

Unbelievable.

You are the one that is not understanding, SCN. I never insinuated that the draw was rigged. What I am saying is TWRA could designate 1 tag for a West Tn applicant, 1 tag for a Middle Tn applicant and 1 tag for an East Tn applicant and the 4th tag could be an "At Large" tag for any applicant. This is merely a suggestion. And once again let me repeat---I have no beef or agenda with TWRA. For the most part they do a great job!
And for your information I'm as conservative as they come so you can drop the liberal name tag. You're just not understanding my point. There is nothing liberal about it. And I'm not questioning the draw process being legitimate or the addresses not being randomly drawn so you can stop beating that horse.

Exactly. You are saying that even though WTN applicants may be outnumbered by ETN applicants 100 to 1, that they should be guaranteed a permit. You are saying that TWRA should go away from a totally random draw just to make sure that someone from WTN is drawn even if it is at the expense of a population segment that far outnumbers them.

That is exactly what the libs want for affirmative action. One (or more) group(s), because they are disadvantaged, are moved to the head of the line. You may think you are conservative, but you are certainly professing a liberal mindset.

I hope the Commission and TWRA have more sense than to ever go that route.

I know that I am a conservative and most certainly not a liberal. But you seem to know a lot about liberals??? :o It is very apparent that you and I don't see eye to eye. We've both spoken our piece. But you want to resort to name calling like a playground bully. So with that I bid you goodnite. :bash:

We certainly don't agree on this one. I think a random draw where EVERY hunter has an equal chance for being drawn is the fairest system.

And, please point out in any of my posts where I called you a name.

Pretty lame way to end a discussion. But, I guess it is reasonable when the facts aren't on your side.

How about something like this:

1 tag reserved for a West TN hunter
1 tag reserved for a Middle TN hunter
1 tag reserved for an East TN hunter
1 tag reserved for a nonresident hunter

How about EVERY hunter having an equal chance in the drawing and none of the affirmative action bs?

I'm from East Tn. And didn't get drawn. Everyone I know in East Tn. area puts in for the elk hunt, on the other hand hardly anyone puts in for the Presidents island hunts. I think it's a matter of location.

And we have a winner!!!!

I didn't mean to get this started, I just thought it seemed ironic that the majority of hunters that was drawn the last few years was from east of Nashville. But I didn't think about more people from east tn putting in for the drawing. It would be interesting to see the percentages of sportsmans license holders that put in for the elk draw since it is a free drawings for them, vs. hunters that paid to enter. Also it would be interesting to see the numbers of sportsman's license holders per region in the state.
