These pics don't do this tree justice! I would love to know how old this tree is and how many pounds of acorns it drops? You think this might be a good spot to hunt? Lol... I've got a few that are this big on the property...it would take at least 3 grown men to wrap hands around this tree. You can use that metal fence post to the right as a reference and its a good 5 foot in front of the tree...

One of these days, I'll have to take some pictures of my oaks. Truly amazing. Three-feet thick, 100+' tall, and 60+ feet up before the first branch.

You would be surprised how fast oaks can grow. I've been ring-aging a lot of the timber I'm having cut, and most of the 24" diameter oaks are only 60-70 years old.

that's interesting. Are they near creek bottoms or good soil? I imagine an oak on a rocky hill wouldn't grow as fast. I remember one time I cut down an oak that died in the back yard. It was somewhere around 8-10 inches in diameter but I counted over 40 rings if I remember correctly. Soil isn't bad here but it does get dry in the summer, no water source nearby.

Nope, these are ridge-top and hill-side poor soil areas. I was shocked at how young the trees were. I expected most of them to be a 100+ years old.

Yep this guys sitting by an old fence row. There's 3 of them total in a row spaced about 50 yds apart. There use to be 4 but about 10 years ago one split in half and fell. We cut the one fallen side for about a year Than one night the other bigger half fell and we cut on it for at least a few years and the majority of the bottom 15 feet or so still lays there. It's just to big to do anything with the saw we have. I actually use it for a blind. I or I should say Justin just put in a food plot right next to these big oaks.

Ive watched these trees for 20 years now as their on our family's place. They seem to be not much bigger now than they were 20 years ago. I know once their so large it's hard to see new growth though. I was thinking that it had to be well over a 100 years old...These trees will NEVER be logged as I enjoy looking at them to much and have been hunting all around them for 20 years. As a matter of fact there's a ladder stand about 25yds to the right on the corner of that tree line where I killed my first deer from and i still hunt from it!
