with all this talk about cicadas going on... I am pumped. A few years ago we had a hatch around here and the fishing was great if you tried to match them as best you could... The carp loved them... catching a 8-12 pound carp (which there are good number of them out there) is a blast as they fight like crazy...

These fish with just a twitch on the surface work wonders.... Do not retrieve them... cast around carp and just twitch some

Which color pattern and size do you think works best?

Suggestion for the non fly fisherman. Buy some clear casting bobbers and then buy some flies tied to look like cicadas. Tie the cicada about 18" below the casting bobber.

Far more effective than the cicada plugs etc out there

Tell more. Work it light a float and fly? Any suggestions for the fly? I honestly don't remember the last cicada hatch and didn't get in on the action. I heard the last time a tiny torpedo was hard to beat.

Saw some guys yesterday fishing a small black rapala popper on spinning tackle doing well

If you can find some Raineys Ultimate Cicada flies and the casting floats you're in business. The fly floats so you're just trying to get it close to the fish

It's so loud up here on Lookout mountain tn that it's crazy. I say the river near downtown Chattanooga would be good fishing cause on South Broad street right now it's deafening
I was in Chattanooga yesterday and it was insane how loud they were. Heading your way to fish tomorrow.

So many people in Knoxville expected them to be in the same places they were 3 years ago are sad right now. Maybe they should've taken 5 minutes and researched the bugs and where they'll be. There are great maps and tools to see exactly where the bugs are and the bodies of water nearby, yet so many are lazy and don't want to take the time to look into it

Sorry for the mini rant, but I've got friends bitching they can't find bugs or fish when the answers are right there in front of them.

I will admit, I am a bit of a nerd when it comes to certain niche hobbies...Civil War relics and history, native American relics and history, WW2, weather, and so on that most people find boring. But even I am amazed to just now learn there are maps and resources for tracking bugs 😄

I know we came back on I75 Saturday and between Cleveland and Riceville there were a few spots of them that you could hear them over the interstate traffic...while doing 70 with the AC and radio on.
