This year, my 13 year old daughter has asked to go both Duck and Deer hunting! Got her hunters ed down and her license, however I only have 1 hunting rifle (45.70) and 1 shotgun (Benelli Supernova 12ga). Does anyone have any advice on decent rifles and perhaps a 20ga shotgun for someone that may or may not continue hunting? I hope she will, but she has dropped other hobbies pretty quick after investing money. I don't know if renting or borrowing is an option in TN, but if so, does anyone have places they recommend?

Bass pro black friday sale has a Savage Axis for 324.97 with a mail in rebate for 75 after purchase. Academy has Winchester SXP(granted, this is a 12 gague, but you can normally find 2 3/4 shells that recoil isn't too bad) for 299.99 in their sales ad. You might come up on a decent 870 in a pawn shop for less.

Thanks! I'll check on those. I didn't think about Pawn Shops, but I know the used selection at some of the gun stores around Memphis tend to be more expensive than the same thing new at Academy/BPS!

I would look for a compact 243 for the deer rifle. The hard part is knowing if they will stick with it. You want to buy quality, but do not want to spend a lot if it is short term. I personally like Remington Model 7's. Shotgun wise I would look for a 20. Mine started with an 870 compact and has moved to a Franchi Affinity 3 compact.
 
Avery had some 12 ga. 3" Migra #2/#5 combo loads today....maybe about 20 cases.
 
I was actually able to pick up quite a bit of 12ga steel and 20ga steel over the last year. I knew I would be hunting and my wife might, so I was already picking up 20ga just in case she got on. And I picked up at least 100 rounds of 30.06, 5.56 and .308 just in case I needed them... Kinda went through a phase I suppose

thank you for your offer. I had a buddy go by FF and grab some. I have plenty but I know clients are going to not realize the shells are nearly impossible to find..Thanks again though...

Yep, I was talking to a guy that is friends with Ben Parker the other day and he was saying the same thing.
He has been telling all his clients you better get some shells if you get the chance. LOL
 
Sky's the limit. Get something good with youth stocks (if she needs them) and even if she gives it up, worst case scenario you can put them back in full size furniture and then dads got some new pieces.

I'm a big Franchi fan and you could get an affinity youth model. Lots of people like the stoegers. I really like the looks of some of the new Weatherby shotguns too. I've heard some mixed reviews on the new beretta a300 ultimas but I like the idea of them. Again these are all budget minded options vs a Benelli, Browning or higher end Berettas, but the same could be done with them.

Rifle wise check savage Axis, Ruger American, Tikkas and Thompson Centers. I don't know near as much about rifles as I do shotguns but I think all these can be had really cheap on sales (if there are any this year) and all shoot pretty dang good for the money.
