Tackle box essentials

This time a year for bass whats always in your tackle box? For me it's some type of craw or lizard. What's in y'all's tackle box and what brands you prefer?

Lizards, flukes, senkos. Mostly zoom except senkos and for the life of me I can't think of the brand of those off top of my head. Red and white bag at Walmart and other retailers

Some type of deep diving crankbait for me. I like a plain ole Fat Free Shad or Strike King XD5/6 models. Have also been using Zboss cranks but really have caught more on the FFS and XDs than anything. I will occasionally have a Dd14 or DD22 tied on too.

Another favorite is a spoon. You'll never catch me without a kastmaster or Foley spoon tied onto at least one rod this time of year through the fall.

Dog days of summer, time to slow down!! I'm a jig fisherman first and foremost. Then a big ol zoom monster worm. Or at night a 1 oz spinner bait with a Colorado blade, the size of the kitchen table.

couldnt have said it better at least on KY lake. ill even downsize baits. i like a dropshot with something like a shaky head worm. things are fixin to change though when the bait starts moving back out to deeper water. winter drawdown should produce some good current.

my hernia repair is about healed and i fixin to catch the shiaat out of some fish.

I do it slightly different then some. Most people rig a Foley spoon on a Carolina rig. I do a modified version of that. Instead of a egg sinker and swivel, I use a trolling sinker that has swivels molded into each end of the weight. General use 1/2 oz. Foley spoons are a schooling fish destroyer. Especially for white bass and fishing in the tail water below the dams. When it gets hot, I start fishing right below the dams in the moving water. Trolling crankbaits and fishing foley spoons are both good ways to catch a lot of fish.

Shaky heads are another done of my favorites. The most easy yet effective Baird out there

I mostly fish for panfish and trout, but catch the occasional bass. i usually have white, silver, or grey 1/16 oz or 1/8 oz roostertails. I also use the 2" curly tail grubs in white/chartruese combo. I have various colors, but it seems I go to white more often, as the lakes I fish are dingy/stained, but not necessarily muddy. Occasionally I'll throw a white/pink or white chartreuse 1/16 or 1/8 oz spinerbait.

I live and fish on Chick. Ive been keeping more rods than I like on deck, but its what we are having to do to get a school to fire. I like big worms, swim baits, a deep crank, a flutter spoon, a hair jig, and a walking style topwater. I keep the fairy wands in the locker for the tough bite

A lot of people think you need to slow down in the summer time. Which sometimes is the right thing to do. But don't be afraid to power fish and cover water. Fish are still eating a lot right now because their metabolism is high. Some of my best fishing last year was late July through august fishing a crankbait and chatterbait in the hottest part of the day. Lat July and August are usually brutal but got on a good bite and rode it for a while. Not saying you shouldn't slow down and drag a worm but Id start out power fishing and make the fish tell you to slow down. Plus fishing pressure slows down this time of year and they don't see many baits like in the spring time. You get around them they will usually eat.

I get caught dragging worms and jigs a lot this time of year though because it gets so hot that I dont necessarily want to be chucking a crankbait all day. But yesterday we drug baits for a couple of hours with no fish in the boat. We went and fished shallow crappie beds around 2 in the afternoon. Bait fish was everywhere on the surface. First cast with a walking bait. Caught a three pounder out of a crappie bed. It was slick calm bright sun. Some times fish dont make sense.

A real confidence bait for us in the spring before the vegetation really takes over is a "Steel Shad."

Have caught all sorts of species with those. Mainly bass and walleye.

I've really enjoyed using a senko-style worm wacky rigged since then. Or a 3.75 swim bait on weighted hook.

They weren't biting plastic worms.

this time of year...early morning I use a frog, popper, whopper plopper or wake bait. once the sun is up I ledge fish on the Chick. Deep diving crankbait, preacher jig, big spoon., big swim bait maybe one with a scrounger head. Always this time of year I have a big plastic worm (Zoom Ole Monster) tied on and a jig with trailer.
