I plan on planting 5 acres of sunflowers next summer. Can some help me out with what type of pre-emergant and post emergent herbicides I should use and their application rates. Also what is optimal planting time. Row spacing and seed (pounds) requirements per acre.

Reach out to chaneylake. He can help.
But you looking for pre emerge such as prowl or similar . That is unless your planting Clearfield sunflowers the you have other options
Get online and look up university of tn extension Publication on herbicides. They have a section just for sunflowers. It will have most information your looking for and it's free.

Prowl would not be my first choice in pre emergent. First spray weeds burndown with roundup etc then work ground to desired level. Plant at 10 lbs acre on rows at least 30" wide and a sunflower planting plate. Spray with spartan as preemergent after planting and fertilize. Once the sunflowers are up about knee high spray again this time use dual and a post emergent. Clearfields use beyond as post emergent. Non clearfields use select as post emergent. Plant by mid april

Good article

The uaex.education article is good, but needs to be updated

I will post early spring my planting details after I have read and evaluated any new chemicals and seed

This will be my 21st year of planting 20-40 acres of sunflowers yearly in 5 to 7 fields

I'll for sure watch for your postings. On a side note biggest problem I have encountered before (1 acre) is deer eat them down at shin height. How do you deal with that issue?

are you planting deer food in hopes that they won't eat it so you can hunt doves?
deer love sunflowers! better have lots of electric fence......or as the other member posted several bullets... :tu:
