Well, we had a nice turnout, with the friends from west Little Rock back to visit, and a special visitor from Smith Co, TN. The match and competitors had a lot of wind to contend with I`ll assure. With the forecast, I opted to shoot my 6.5/284.
I got placed on 2nd relay, and was matched with the visitor from Smith co TN, I pulled his targets and he pulled mine. He was on fire the first target shooting a perfect 50 score with 1x, the second was a 47, great start.
We swapped and the pullers got our stuff on the bench, got through the 6 minute sighters, and we hear a train whistle. The shooting position is about 60 yds from train tracks, so one shooter declairs he wants to wait the train out.
This would have been fine if additional sighters could have been shot, but was not the case. Everyone on that relay shot after a condition change and all bullets were out 8 to 10" right of center. This of course resulted in low scores.
We swapped again, and wind was howling pretty good by now, and the final relay for the first shooters resulted in poor scores as the wind had its way. Several shooters had at least 1 bullet out past the 5 ring for a no score.
It was our final relay, so we only had a 2 minute sighter period, I got off 4 shots with the last one out left on the edge of the blue, the line judge called 15 seconds left so I made a scope adjustment, but no time left for another shot.
I decided with the wind up, to run my shots fast. It ended up paying off as my final 2 targets scored 47 each.
I ended up 3rd place out of 12 shooters in the custom class with 17 shooters total. 5 factory class shooters.
The guy from Smith Co, won the match, and I was very happy for him. I told him I knew there was some serious shooters from that area, and wasn`t suprised at his achievment.
I felt good after the match, as I feel that was a strong comeback with the conditions so unfavorable. Had that competitor not called for the wait for the train, it may have turned out differently.
Another tid bit, the first and second place shooters shot, no less, a 6 Dasher..............
I`m off today, and have my day planned, I will make a modified case for the 6 Dasher to fit the Stoney Point, finish seating 40 charged 6 Dasher cases, drill and tap a Remington 870 for a scope base and mount up a dot sight for a friend.
