I hunt in Houston county and gonna try to food plot this year.If anyone familiar with this area has any suggestions on what to plant and when I would love some input.

Best advice I can give you is to go on the QDMA website and order the Food Plot book,so many ques, and all or most answered in that book.Short of that, never go wrong with clover and a good soil ph.But there is much more for a good food plot.

Lime, lime , lime! A good rule of thumb is at least 1 ton per acre.
Try to start out with winter grain rye, not ryegrass. Lime your plots now and disc them in mid September. Plant/fertilize anytime after that.

Next spring frost seed some clover into the plot in early March and lime it again according to soil test. Bush hog it in May and let the long rye plants act as green manure to build your soil's organic matter. If your soil is poor to marginal do this for 2-3 years. If your soil is good, then lime it anyway and plant winter oats and essex rape.
