First off I'm no mechanic. :bash: So now that that's out of the way I have a 1999 Honda 300 4x4 that I've owned since day one. My son tells me several weeks back it won't start so I go out and turn the key on and it's in neutral but the light doesn't light up showing it. I push the starter and nothing. Doesn't do a thing. So I try to kick start it and it fires up. Same thing happened a year or two ago except the kick start wouldn't work either. At least I don't think it did. Took it in and it was a stater assembly. Any ideas this time before I haul it in?

I'm certainly know expert, but it sounds like it could be maybe a sensor or something. If neutral light isn't coming on it may not think it's in neutral.

I know this sounds dumb, but you're getting no replies. Is the battery good?

If the starter will not turn, green light not showing neutral, and cranking with pull rope-You have a dead battery. Don't buy a cheap battery either. Buy one that will last years to come and not an Auto Zone special. I have been there and done that

Once in neutral, can you rock it back and forth to get it to realize it's in neutral and green light come on? Hope this makes sense
It makes sense but green light doesn't work when you do that.

Dead battery never entered my mind. I'll have to check it out. It's been a while since it's had a new battery so hopefully that's what it is.

Thanks!

Finally got around to pulling the battery out and it was dead as a hammer. Looked at old receipts and I bought it in 2010. Bought a new one and fired right up. :tu: Still feel like an idiot for not even thinking about that. :bash:
