Had one in our hole Sunday morning.
It was fun watching it and trying to guess which direction he would come up next at. LOL

Can't out guess them by the way. :rotf:

I wouldn't know what they looked like. How do duck hunters keep from killing a protected duck. I'm guessing blind time and training yourself on the duck flight? Because like at reelfoot couple weeks ago and shooting started literally 10 minutes before legal shooting time. There is no way a hunter could identify a duck at that time other than know it was a duck by flight and body outline

Yeah, wingbeats aren't as hard to figure out as I thought they would be.
Body size and wing shape are tougher though, for me anyway.

As for a grebe, I don't know if I have ever seen one fly honestly.
Usually they will just kinda appear in the decoys then dive a few times and all of a sudden they are gone. :)

An ethical hunter educates himself/herself before making a mistake. There are a pile of books and videos out there that cover the basics of duck ID.

It is a real stretch to mistake a duck for a protected water bird.
