Anyone tried something other than traditional calling? Several years back, I was hunting near the top of a deep holler. I heard a buck start making a scrape in a pine thicket about 50 yards behind me. I couldn't see him, but I could clearly hear his foot striking the ground, and the dirt flying. Several minutes later, a 4 pt. buck came up the holler, and past me at 10 yards headed straight for the sound of the scraping buck. I shot the 4 point, he was so focused on the other buck he never saw me. I've considered trying to replicate the sounds of that scraping buck to see if I could call a buck to me."
I've got a book by Jerome Robinson "In The Deer Woods", and he tells about and Indian guide he had in Canada that called bucks in using his hunting knife. He would beat the handle end of his knife against an exposed tree root 5 times. He said that bucks would do this with their foot to attract other deer, and always 5 times. Robinson said the guide was able to call in 2 good bucks which he shot using this technique. Might be worth a try.
