My 8 yr old killed his 2nd one of the year this morn. He's had a tough year considering I've been tagged out since muzzleloader and taking him every time he wanted to go. He killed a doe Thanksgiving week but missed a really good buck that week too along with a few missed opportunities without a shot along the way. That's how it goes, but he made a good 50 yard shot for a bang, flop on this one. We sat in a spot where we scouted on New Year's day, and he helped make a blind out of a fallen tree top.

We went and sat a field this evening where deer have been seen nearly every evening this week. I couldn't have scripted the front timing any better here, but they didn't show this eve. Gonna sleep in and go to church in the morning and see if he wants to try it again tomorrow eve.

It was still a good day.

Awesome and congrats. I have twins that will be 7 next week. And we will be out tomorrow as well trying to get one of thems first. Have had several encounters this year as well but they haven't been able to pull the trigger yet. For their age they are pretty picky about their shots. There's been a couple times this year I was clenched up ready for the bang and they never did shoot. Said they didn't feel comfortable or they couldn't get steady. That's great though.

It's tough to get a kid on one in the woods. We let a good buck get away opening morning following a doe that he just couldn't see when it hit an opening. It's good that they're patient. Good luck to you all!

Congrats for your son.
What red dot sight are you using?

It's a bushnell that I got off amazon for $90 that had good reviews. This is the third season and his 7th deer with it. The only issue with it being off zero is when I may or may not have dropped the gun out of the stand. :) He is right handed, left eye dominant, and it has really helped him get deer in the scope with no magnification. He killed his first with it at 135 yards.
