My oldest asked for help, I said son you have to hunt to kill deer, you and your buddy did all that work putting in stand and trail cams. They are no good if you're not in them.
I seen great pics off the camera's he said can you come up and kill me some lol. I said when I heal. I am proud because work keeps him out of the woods.

Gotta admit, doing everything to grow deer, and then monitor them with cameras, has become far more fun to me than actually hunting them.

Truth. Even when I do hunt im sitting in the stand looking around scheming, planning, and wondering what i could maybe do better. I have to fight the urge to work on habitat but dang sometimes it's tempting.

In one of Craig Harpers interviews he mentioned the same issue. From the deer stand he noticed something he didnt like. Tried to ignore it but couldnt so he climbed down, went and got the chainsaw, and got to work.

Reminds me of the guy who enjoys making money just to see the zeroes add up. I have to admit, I'm kinda that way too. Getting a good one on camera, is almost as good as getting one on the ground.

Exactly! It's kind of like, "I win!" if I figure out an old buck and get him on camera. Almost as fulfilling as killing him. And you get to do it over and over again in a single season.

Not trying to pick on anybody but that's what I don't understand about folks who climb into their shooting houses with their cannons and watch open areas. So much of the joy for me is in the woods and in the sweat and the planning.

I get you Bushape. But at the same time, I try to live by: different stroke for different folks. We put shooting houses on all our major food plots. I rarely hunt them even though we spent a lot of time and money getting them in place. We did so for rainy/windy day hunting. I'm glad we have them when it's pouring rain. At the same time, I MUCH prefer a stand back in the thick stuff where I can't see more than 20 yards. To me, THAT is hunting.

Its the whole package for me, its pretty much a year round pursuit. I will say however the game isnt over until until I walk up to them. Once I find one I want to hunt, Killing them is definitely the end goal for me!
I also do a lot of "blind" hunting, meaning hunting places I have never ran a camera and hunt strictly from scouting results. I get much satisfaction from hunting this way as well.
