I am a smoker and do smoke while i hunt and have shot many nice deer and taken my fair share of old does as well. I never throw my butts on the ground but keep a bottle in my pack to put them in. Was curious what everyones thoughts were on this subject.
 
You dont want to hear my opinion on smoking.

Ok ill give it anyways. Its the nastiest, grossest habit that anyone can ever pick up. I hate going to a restaurant and come out smelling like an ashtray. Cant stand dipping either.

To each his own i dont care if smoke dip, fart, grunt, whatever you wanna do. None of my business :D

I don't understand why people smoke. I tried I when I was a kid and just couldn't do it, thank goodness. I'm a paramedic by trade and see the results of it daily.....emphysema, COPD.....debilitating sicknesses that are caused by smoking and NOTHING else....hell, it says it on the pack. Quick question - how many of you smokers have kids with asthma? Anyhow, I wouldn't think smoking in the stand would be productive but then again I know people that spend a fortune on scent blocking products and smoke in the stand and kill deer consistently.....
 
I was referring to hunting and it spooking deer, not to my health :) I know its terrible and wish i had never started but thats bedside the point. :)

You are a grown man so you do what you please with your own body. I have heard about lots of people killing deer while smoking in the stand. However, I dont kill as many deer in a season as I want so I would not take any chances.
 
I don't smoke, but my neighbor swears he can't kill a deer unless he's smoking a cigarette. I bring my deer closer with bbq flavored sunflower seeds, thats my on stand addiction.
 
I have seen a lot of deer while smoking. Earlier in the season I had an eight beaded down behind me. I didn't know he was there due to rain wind and wet leaves. Didn't see him till after I put a cig out. I have passed on several 120-130 class bucks this year. Now i have never seen a mature buck while smoking or after. Wait I have never seen a mature buck period so i cant compare that. I only smoke if the wind is steady in one direction. If its swirling or calm I don't smoke.
 
I usually try to wait to smoke as long as i can, but usually after a couple hours i'll give in and smoke one. I know plenty of people who've had to put a cigarette out just to kill a deer. Makes you wonder about all this "scent control"!

Yes you can I smoked for 30 some years and quit cold turkey so yes it can be done if YOU want to.
 
I have had to drop a bunch of cigs to shoot deer.been quit for 11 years or so.would rather not get a shot as to lite another.i was smoking 3-5 packs a day.i know i shortened my life & hope my family learns from my mistakes!.the only thing i drop now to sboot a deer is my ki dle fire or a book lol

how did u quit?
 
I guess after seeing my sister in-law being diagnosed with COPD and my mother-in-law with COPD and Emphysema and now on Oxygen, I could tell you how I feel about smokers as well, but it doesn't matter what I think. :D My biggest problem with it is the people who are too broke to pay house payments, car payments, electric payments etc, and are on food stamps, but still smoke like a freight train. yep, I have a problem with it...

But whether it affects your hunting or not, I don't know. It eventually will, if nothing else, with how much coughing you do when walking to your stand.
 
I can fire up a left handed cig and the deer start coming from everywhere. Maybe I shouldn't have let that secret out! LOL!!!

Went with a well known hunter friend of mine 3 straight times and he killed a shooter buck each time..........always smoked on stand.
