I had sat up to call to birds that usually roost overlooking the river and had two gobbling there at daylight but this bird was gobbling behind me on the other side of the hollow. He sounded closer so I got turned around and started workng him. He kept answering and getting closer. Finally I could heard him walking in the leaves (the rain hadn't got to me yet) and I shut up the calling. I could hear him drumming and I saw his head. He got to about 15 yds. and I got the shot off. 10 inch beard with 3/4 spurs and 20 lbs.
