Slug gun or muzzleloader?

I'm gonna put some time in Fort Campbell this season . I have hunted it befor and used my muzzleloader . I'm just wondering if the advantage of a slug gun would be worth spending the money on a decent slug gun set up ? Been looking at either a savage 220 or the H&R slug hunter both have good reviews with the price being $550/600 for the savage and $250/300 for the H&R . And advice would be great

Shotgun when hunting woods. Muzzleloader when hunting fields. I have more confidence in my muzzleloader on longer shots

personally i have a 300 yd smokeless ml i would use any day over a SG
the only advantage i could see would be a quick follow up shot

I would choose my mzl over a slug gun. I have confidence in it and the one shot thing seems to make me even more selective and sure of my shots.

IF I were gonna buy a slug gun it would be the savage.. Rifle like accuracy plus an adjustable trigger.

The H&R has good accuracy from what I've read but the savage does seem better

I've had both, still have the Savage... Dicks will run a sale on them this summer for $399. Well worth the extra money for the BOOM BOOM BOOM..... :tu:

I have a Savage smokeless ML and have had slug guns and used both at Fort Campbell. But for everyday use, I'm taking the Savage 220.

I have never owned a savage 220 but I do have an HR ultra slug hunter in 12 gauge and at 100 yards it will shoot the remington copper solids in a 3 inch circle all day long. But to ansewer the question I would probably choose my smokeless ML to use.

I hunted that place for 13 straight years and alot of those years i took both a muzzleloader and pump shot gun. Took the muzzleloader to the places I knew and took the shotgun to new spots where i would be doing some moving around looking. The last several years I hunted it all i took was a 20 gauge mossberg 500 with a 3x9x40 scope. Tried the red dot on it a few years and scope or red dot preference is split 50/50. If i started back going I would seriously look at putting the red dot back on it and maybe add a 3x magnifyier. I also normally hunted thickets with shots no longer than 50-70 yards. Its a hard choice between slug gun and muzzleloader. If the place aint changed that much in the last 4-5 years I would go with the slug gun. I can tell you from personal experience that the only big boys I ever saw out past 80 yards was from the truck driving to and from an area. And in thickets where some how branches seem to just jump out in front of the bullet a quick 2nd shot aint a bad thing. But in the end its all personal preference and choice.

I have both the savage 220 shoot federal troph bonded tips .tack drive and just as good as a muzzle loader within 100 yard as far as over 100 yards a muzzle loader is a better choice. Also go shoulder the savage 220 it is a tack driver 1 in groups at a 100 in a vice not a problem but I do not like way it feels its not as comfortable as a tc omega my opinion.

I have a savage 220, it is accurate and deadly out to 200 yards. 1 in the chamber and 2 in the mag so you'd have 2 quick follow up shots if you needed.

I have a savage 20ga sg and I will take it any day over a mz because of a follow up shot if needed, it also doesn't hurt that I tagged out in il last year at 220 yards using rem accutip slug.

Savage 220. I have killed to 172 yards with it. Not sure if it will kill a lot further. It will shoot great at 200 yards but not sure if it has enough energy left, at least according to ballistics.
for sure a tack driver.

My cva will kill to 250 yards or just a little further, longest kill is 252.

Definitely my mz.!!! I would trust it at longer ranges than a slug gun!
