Who here wants to see the sling bow legalized for hunting as regular archery equipment? I do, and have emailed twra a few weeks ago when they opened to hunting season comments.

Just curious who else is into the idea. I would really love to see it legalized, must be awesome to shoot a deer like that, pure instinctive shooting and very compact.

For those who don't know, it's a heavy duty slingshot (40+ pounds) that can nock an arrow and has an arrow rest and shoots regular hunting arrows.

Not really into it. Purely instictive and a cool idea that many lacking that instinct will want to try. People struggle to efficiently kill a deer with even a rifle (and certainly a compound bow) Why would you want to see people that can't shoot an easy to shoot weapon using something that will take a decent amount of skill?

It's a cool idea to shoot targets with, but we need to grow up and look past the "it'd be cool to kill it with this and that". Not to sound like a jerk or anything but a little better attitude when you hunt would be "What is the most efficient way for me to ethically kill this animal?" A slingshot certainly doesn't make the part.

Couldn't you say the same thing about a recurve or longbow?

Yep. You won't ever see me holding a primitive bow in a deer stand unless the law requires it.

The only support I will give primitive bows is they are a primitive weapon that was at one point the most efficient tool to use (same with spears) not some new toy to play around with.

It's not as efficient as a recurve or has that kind
of power stroke

Many hit the woods every year and can't make
a 20 yard shot with compound

Animals deserve more than
"Cool"

so it looks like the problem is hunters not practicing, not the type of bow

Nah, your just half the problem

That may be fine for shooting, but
Like I said it just doesn't even add up to
a recurve, just cause it will shoot an arrow
doesn't mean you should be able to hunt with it

Deer just aren't for target practice....

Just look how long it took for Crossbows to become legal for all hunters during Archery season. And they have been around a few years. ;)

It is a combination of the two. Take a marginally effective novelty item and place it in the hands of marginally skilled weekend warriors and you have a recipe for disaster.
