slate strikers

what do you do to tune them up? mine are not working as good as they once was ... i tried lightly sanding them and that seemed to make them worse

you might have used the wrong grit or didnt keep them even. Im not much help though, i use the woodhaven scratch pad that came with my call,

i have something kind of like a brillo pad that came with one of those slate call conditioners,it has a diamond side and a stone side for roughing up slate,glass,and aluminum calls plus it holds a piece of chalk and one of those brillo type pads.

I use a small file. Mainly on a cedar peg.

3M pads are great i turn my own strikers and those pads are what i use.the green plastic type brillo pads work for touch ups while in the field . but never use real course grit makes them too rough.
