It's serious business to take a life. If you arent thrilled to kill him, why do it? Just to watch him flop on the ground and think you are some great hunter?
If i was starving, no way I would have passed that deer (or ANY legal deer). But for me personally, I am not starving, and would rather watch a deer on my land enjoy his life on the time he spends on it, even if it means the first person who sees him off my land chooses to kill him. As long as my neighbor doesn't go over his 2 buck limit, I dont feel bad about passing any deer.

I think you did right when compared to your top 2 targets but in the end only you can make that call. If it's a spike and makes you happy I say hammer down.
I would have passed him, I am a hunter not a killer. It does not bother me to go 3-4 years killing nothing but seeing 20 bucks every season. I honestly enjoy taking pics and videos of these deer within shooting range and letting them walk
