I'm looking for a new turkey/duck/dove semi auto shotgun without breaking the bank. The Mossberg 930 is at the top of the list but the Escort is a close second. I'm not sold on some of these Turkish made models. I haven't bought a shotgun in 10 years and Browning is my go to gun but they are extremely expensive. Thoughts?

If I was looking for a new shotgun for duck/turkey I would look at the Stoegar 3000 or 3500 if you want to shoot the 3.5in shells. I had a couple Mossberg 935 and none of them would cycle anything but heavy loads. With dove loads they were basically single shots. The 930 might be different but I have never messed with that model.

EVERY Mossburg semi auto that I have seen has trouble with lighter loads. Stay away from those unless you like single shots. Find a used Beretta and rock on.

I agree, if you are looking to get into a shotgun for as little money as possible, go with a pump. Most inexpensive semis are inexpensive for a reason. A good pump is uber reliable, look for an 870 (the older the better), a Benelli Nova, Ithaca 37, or Browning BPS. I've got an older Winchester 1300 that is my home defense gun that I picked up for less than $200 bucks that works great.

check out the beretta outlander.

I wouldn't shoot a semi auto Mossberg if you paid me to!

Unless your just bent on a 3 1/2 gun, stay away from the cheaper 3 1/2" semi auto's. Those guns are not designed to shoot light loads, hell, a lot of the higher end 3 1/2" semi auto's will not shoot them either, but that's a discussion for another day. The 3" guns will have less trouble cycling the lighter loads. The outlander is the best "budget priced' auto loader on the market right now..

I've got a 935 now and it shoots but kicks like a mule. I can't shoot 3.5 in. loads. I will look at the outlander. I saw a Weatherby and a Tristar side by side and they looked exactly the same. I'm looking for an all around gun. 2 3/4 and 3 in. is what I want. Thanks for the responses.
