6 solid hours in the stand, and not a single deer seen. After missing the old buck I was after, I wondered if I was on track for another "2013" season, and so far it seems as such. Hard to imagine 6hrs in a fresh, unhunted stand, with absolutely no deer sightings. I killed a 130+ 10 point from it last season. Guess I used up all my luck back then.

I got skunked in a stand i have never been skunked in. It sounded like Vietnam all around me. Orange army out in full force.

If I remember correctly wasn't it late in the season you killed that buck mup.
Yes sir. But that isn't the norm out there for sure. Usually the first two weeks of Nov are the buck sighting/shooting days, and after that sightings drop off drastically. I just figure the few does on my place get bred in those few days and then there's no real draw there to pull in other bucks. But yes, last season there was apparently a late doe and he was following her up the ridge when I shot him.

Was up a tree for 10 hours yesterday. Saw 0 deer, never even heard any chasing, I did bump deer going in though which was a bummer as they let every deer in the county know where I was lol. Heard the neighbor shoot around 9:30 so at least someone was seeing something.
Going to rest today and have other commitments tomorrow, may try again Tuesday.
I was having second thoughts on killing the six point during the M/L season but glad I shot him now.
Congrats again on your Buck MUP, hope the rest of the season is just as good for ya!!

I've been called as much as a liar and that I must not know how to hunt before when I posted that I've hunted all day on my property and not seen a single deer. Thought it was just an East TN thing. ;)

I had a lease in Middle Tn. for over 20 years. [Giles, Lawrence Co.] I gave it up several years ago because it was becoming a hassle. Long drive, trespassers, dogs, etc.
I know for a fact hunting here in the hills and hollers in the East is a whole nother ballgame.
Out there if I didn't see 5-10 deer every sit I considered it a bad hunt lol. Here at home I might go 5-10 days without seeing a single deer especially as the season progresses. But as you well know, killing any deer on your own property you get so much more satisfaction.
Do I miss the lease? Yeah, I gotta admit I sometimes do, it was a lot of fun. I introduced my wife and daughter to deer hunting there and was sitting beside them when they killed their first deer. But hunting here at home even with all the challenges is much more rewarding.

Might be time to do a little scouting. A fresh unhunted stand with no deer sightings tells me the deer aren't using that area right now, at least not much during the day.

Thing is, they just aren't in that particular area it turns out. They move, and just aren't in that area at that particular point in time. The deer numbers are low to start with around my area, and sometimes they just don't get around to the stand I happen to be in on a particular day. I moved over the hill from Friday evenings hunt, about 300 yds, for the next morning hunt, and killed a good buck. Small numbers of deer are just harder to pinpoint on the section of land I own to be within sight of where they're traveling on any particular morning or evening. Also, I don't scout this property bc I've owned and hunted it for years, and basically have already scouted it and hung stands on oak ridges and on travel corridors, so it's really about just hunting the wind in a stand that works for that wind direction mostly at this point. But yes, I still have deer come in from downwind from time to time. :)

LOL, I know my property like the back of my hand. It's just 60 acres and i've lived on it for 20 years.
I do have multiple stand sites, and I don't overhunt any of them.
There isn't any agriculture for many miles around here. My property is all hills and hollers as is much of the land in this area. I have one small area of flat ground, less than one acre that is used for a food plot.
The truth is we have a very low deer density here in my part of the county but a lot of hunting pressure from the surrounding properties. Our deer depend on mast to survive and unfortunately we had back to back mast failures 4 years ago. The good thing is, last year and this year we have had good acorn production with a corresponding increase in fawn recruitment for this year and hopefully for next. But it only takes a couple of those "bad" years to drop us back down to square one.
