I got a new browning xbolt in 223 the other day and am wanting to put a decent scope on there. I have a simmons atec on my 270 and 243 and love them but had a friend tell me the new master series aetecs were junk and the old ones where better. Well guess what you cant get an old aetec any more unless you find a used one so I am open for suggestions and would even buy an old one if someone had one.

I bought a bushnell 4200 for an xbolt this year and really like it. It's better than my vari-xII. If you like a monarch w/BDC reticle there are still some team primos scopes out there that are the old monarch for $199

Buy the best you can afford.

.223 won't punish a scope too bad, but I would read a lot of reviews before I bought. There are some scopes out there that will shift point of aim on you.

The higher end Bushnells are getting good comments lately. Leupold, Zeiss, Nikon, there are a whole bunch of good ones out there. This site does a pretty good job of breaking them down by price range.

I've bought 2 of the AETEC's in the last few months. For the price, I think they are one of the absolute best buys out there. They are on ebay, you can get the black or the silver for $89. Here is who I got mine from http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-SIMMONS-AETEC-2 ... 20b5fc93eb They don't seem like junk to me, they aren't Leupold's or Zeiss's, but they're also going for less than $100! I love both of mine. If you're wanting to spend a bunch of money for some real quality glass, then I'm partial to Leupold's. I just bought a NEW VXII 4x12x50 on opticsplanet for $409, which is cheaper than the USED ones are selling for on ebay! You can get deals on ebay and you can get ripped off on ebay too.

anything but simmons or trashco.

cant speak for the tascho but simmons is my favorite scope. we have 5 of the simmons 8 point scopes on 4 muzzleloaders and 1 270 between me and my dad the oldest has been on there for 10+ years and never had to adjust the scope or anything. my brother and dad have simmons aetec on there 300's and there great scopes too. ive got a nikon monarch on my encore and i believe i like a simmons better than the nikon.

i have owned 1 simmons scope and will never own another. it would not hold zero for more than 3 shots.

I like my Nikon Prostaff well enough to buy another, my Nikon Buckmaster is ok, but I will probably buy a Redfield Revolution next, as its optics seem just as clear, price a little better and MADE IN USA. They also are made by Leopould and have a lifetime warranty. Nikon and Burris are both made in the Phillipines, though good quality. Have heard much the same (that your buddy was saying) about simmons/weaver since their buyout a couple years back... poor qc and bad customer service.

Leupold Rifleman. The best clarity for the money IMO. I have 4 of them now. I did buy a Nikon Pro Staff in 3x9x40 BDC reticle. The clarity does not compare to the Leupold, and they are for around the same money.

I have a few scopes in the $150-$250 range: Leupold VX-I, Nikon Buckmasters, Bushnell Trophy, Burris Fullfield II. Two weeks ago I bought two more Burris Fullfield IIs. I lilke them better than all the above.

I've had cheap BSA, Simmons, and Tasco and won't buy another, even though the higher end or newer models of these might be okay.
