INCH pounds

I went 50 inch lbs on my bases and 25 inch on my rings. EGW brand.

if you're not sure and don't have a tool, you could go "softly,firmly,snug-with some PURPLE Loc-Tite for back up" that would be my best advice short of using a tool.

You can get a F.A.T. Wrench from Wheeler Industries.

btw, an aside: don't go shopping at AutoZone for purple loc-tite, the mouth breathers in there do not believe there is such a critter

Thanks a ton, Stovepipe! Laughed my butt off on the "mouth breather" comment, by the way! :D

Here's a follow-up:

My wonderful wife bought me a new scope, a Simmons Prosport. Decent scope. So, I go to take off the old scope (which I was sure was bad) and the screws holding the rings were barely tight! So now I am thinking that my "bad" scope might still be good and that the recoil was moving it on each shot.

What do y'all think?

The scope mount I ordered said when you install the scope use 22-25 lbs of torque. Those torque screw drivers are expensive and I'm not going to spend $100.00 (plus) on one. I was told to put the long end of the allen wrench into the nut and turn the short end of the Allen wrench when attaching the scope to the mount and don't crank down real hard on it; It would be less likely to over tighten that way. I attached the mount to the gun by putting Permatex Blue (medium strength)on the threads and snugged them down tight. I did the same thing to my .270 and so far it's holding up real good...I'll see if it does on my muzzy.
I ain't no gunsmith though!
