I might have been asleep but I seem to remember reading a thread about coyote hunting just a few minutes ago and now I can't find it ????

It confused me when I read it the first time.

I am wondering if the rules are different between units?

Could you run down the regs concerning coyote hunting, with a centerfire rifle, from now till the end of the last juvy hunt?

There is no difference for the coyote regulations between units. From now until Jan. 4 you have to be a legal big game hunter to use a centerfire. That includes blaze orange and the proper big game gun license.

That hunter had killed his three bucks, and antlerless hunting ended for him in the area he was wanting to hunt on Sunday. Therefore, he legally could not be deer hunting since he was tagged out on bucks. And, since he couldn't legally deer hunt due to being tagged out, he could not be out there with a centerfire for coyotes through Jan. 4.

Starting Jan. 5-Jan. 9, coyotes can be hunted with centerfire by any hunter.

The weekend of the Young Sportsman hunt, Jan. 10-11, the deer season is back open, and centerfires for coyote are only legal for legal deer hunters. The only legal deer hunters that weekend are properly licensed (if needed) and blaze oranged juveniles.

It IS NOT legal for any hunters over the age of 16 to use centerfires for anything Jan. 10-11.

Starting Jan. 12, centerfires are legal again for coyotes until the archery deer season opens in 2015.
