Trying to get one for my wife, had a Browning in the works. but that deal fell through.

The Ruger is brand new. All weather seems like a heck of a gun for her.

The 700 is close to a year old, Syn stock with stainless. Comes with a Nikon Prostaff on it.

Which of the two mentioned would be a better gun for her? If neither of these sound good, point me in a direction for her to get a good .243 for around 6-700 bucks.

Either should do fine as long as the length of pull isn't too long on one of them. If you do think you may have to go with a shorter stock the Remington will be easier to find another stock for.

Either are good guns. I have a 700 in 243, and I have 2 different Ruger Mark II All Weathers, 1 in 243 and 1 in 25/06. You can't go wrong in any of them, but just like Rubberduck270 said, you might check the length of pull. I searched everywhere for a youth stock for my 700, and couldn't find one. I cut down a Rem 7600 pump stock for my nephew to use on my 243 pump during Juvenile hunt. It worked great for him. I am actually checking on getting him a 243 Remington Pump right now. That may be an option for your wife. They make them in synthetic and wood stocks. It should be well within your budget.

I have thought about getting the 7615 pump action 223 that takes AR mags for some time,,

IMO,,would make an awesome kid /women gun,,it has the M4 style adjustable stock also,,

I'm kinda thinking the same way.. They are asking 629 for the Ruger, and 650 out the door for the Remington.

I like the safety on the Ruger too

Both are good rifles. If the Rem has a nikon on it and the rugerhas no scope I would get the rem. Well I would probably get the rem anyhow though.

I like the Ruger M77 or Hawkeye Compacts. They weigh at least a pound less than a traditional-sized rifle, and the short barrel (16.5") makes it really handy ina tree stand, yet doesn't cost you nearly as much velocity as you might think. My grandaughter shot a couple deer with the 243, and she's only about 5'6". My son and I shot three deer with the same gun,and we're both 6'. The gun balances so well, you can quiclkly get used to teh short stock.

I recommend you look at the TC Venture or Weatherby Vanguard. You can get these guns for a bit over $400, leaving $200-$300 for a scope.

Here's a pic of a Ruger Compact next to a Browning A Bolt for size comparison.

I like my Rem 700's but think I would go Ruger they just dont have that cheaper look the Rem are going to. The compact is sweet no matter your size. You might look at encore they have stock options from several places. JMO
