You are probably asking why am I posting this in an Alabama Crimson Tide glory thread. In addition to it being a good analysis of how a defense full of 4 and 5 stars can be so unprepared and outplayed by a team that was the 104th ranked offense, there is an aspect to it that may actually relate to Alabama's football team. Now I'm sure many, if not most of you, simply think Ohio State is overrated, but for those of you based in reality, here's something to think about.

I'll save you the bother of reading a post-game analysis of the Ohio State/Iowa defensive debacle. One thing that jumped out at me in the posted article is this: Ohio State's D coordinator is an NFL guy. He is also the safety's coach. Ohio State's LB coach is also an NFL guy and a former NFL D coordinator. The NFL does not develop players. They expect them to be ready to go from day one. If not, they are cut (or benched and cut in year two or three if they are a first or second round pick). One point of the article is this might be the issue with Ohio State's D against Iowa. If you watched the game, the LBs and safeties were completely unprepared, flummoxed and confused. Schiano tried a number of different coverages and nothing worked. He only served to further confuse his defense. The author does a much better job on this point than I can, but that's the gist of it.

So what does this have to do with Alabama? Well, Alabama's offensive coordinator is also an NFL guy. This Saturday, Alabama will play the first top 10 defense that it has played this year. Mississippi State is ranked #7 in total defense. Until LSU's #17 defense, the best defense that Alabama has played was FSU, an average at best #36 D. I stopped looking at the rankings after I came to the Vols at #56. So, to date, Alabama has played only 3 teams with defenses ranked in the top 60. This Saturday, they finally play a top 10 D and then in the conf championship game it will get even tougher as UGA is (currently) ranked #4 in total D. (Auburn is also currently a top 20 defense.) So, the question is has Alabama's NFL guy developed his QB and offence now will find itself going up against not just better talent on the defensive side of the ball, but better D coordinators using schemes and coverages to confuse and exploit a QB with well known limits and deficiencies? It's going to be interesting to watch.

You're right . ALABAMA should just bench hurts and fire their coach and hire a new one . They certainly aren't going anywhere

What makes us think that? OSU has only played two good teams to this point (Oklahoma and Penn St.). OSU split those games and lost to a an avg. Iowa team. Looking at the rest of OSU schedule, they only play one more decent team. I'm not sure it's even fair to compare them to Bama or mention their name in a Bama pot.... oke: :rotf:

That's not what I'm saying. No team is unbeatable. The strength of Bama's schedule is backloaded and three of their next four teams will have defenses capable of taking away the running game and forcing Hurts to beat them with his arm. I think it will be interesting to see if your NFL guy reacts and has coached the same as our NFL guys. That may not happen, as I don't believe Saban has become a CEO coach like Meyer has and Dabol isn't his good friend.

Misery loves company.

Ohio State plays two more "decent" teams. I can as easily see them finish 8-4 as 10-2. The visiting team has won every game in the OSU v MSU series going back to 2007. I can also easily see Alabama lose at least one of its next four games and wouldn't at all be surprised to see Auburn and UGA exploit what LSU did, and MSU probably moreso will, expose. Stay tuned. There might be something new about college football that even you haven't learned.

It became very clear in the 2007 BCS NC.....

Gators are 2-0 all time against OSU I can't say the same about Mich........ :rotf:
