Can someone "in the know" direct me to the statute/law regarding dog owner's rights, if any, regarding retrieval of hunting dogs that venture onto posted/private property?

Private property is private property. You asked a valid question but think of it this way, there are a lot of people who would think up any reason in the world to justify why they were caught on a land owners private property.

I don't even own hunting dogs. I merely wanted to find out if there were any statues/laws regarding this topic. ;)

There are no laws that allow dog owners to retrieve their dog off of private property in TN without the landowners permission.

Steve,

Does law enforcement (TWRA or County/City) have any obligation to intervene on behalf of said dog owner?

No. It is strictly between the hunter and landowner and the officer should not be called.

Thanks for the clarification. I thought this was the way it was but wanted to get clarification. I've been "debating" with a fellow I know and he knew he didn't have the right to trespass to retrieve but thought a LEO would intervene. I'll pass this along to him.

Thanks for your help!!
