A small pension and SS kick in not too far down the road. I have saved a decent amount and my family will likely leave me more than I deserve. I love America, but I pay almost $500 a month just in property taxes on my home now.

I am sick of traffic. Foreigners have invaded and are all around me. Land prices have ruined some of my hunting dreams. Traveling the country in a RV is not inexpensive. Perhaps I just want to regularly Facetime and fly home a couple of times a year to visit family. With a cell phone, internet, and good food, I might enjoy just moving around a bit.

I have no idea how health insurance works outside U.S., but there is healthcare. I think I can even get Ivervectin, testosterone, and Viagra without my physician giving me permission.

I've been down on a number of Caribbean islands many times. Warm all year, and just really laid back. Plenty of good fishing and beach time. I still dream of moving to one of the southern most Islands. Dominica, Barbados, Aruba, Curacao are mostly out of the hurricane belt.
Now my property taxes here in the mountains of Colorado are only $374, no not per month, per year, 3 bdr on 10 acres.

You should see what my step-son is paying in Illinois! $14,000/yr on a house that he paid $250,000 for several years ago. No wonder Chiflyguy left Illinois. Ridiculous.

Mine were $9600 a year for a 1250 sq.ft. On a 50x125' lot.

Don't know about your county in Tn. But everything you buy is 10 cents tax on the dollar. Think it might be or close to the highest in the country. Several years ago we had a 55 dollar wheel tax added to get your tag sticker. Roads are still destroyed. And my property tax was voted 30 percent higher year before last. It won't be long it'll catch up to everywhere else. Add up 10 cents on the dollar and how much are you spending a year.

I met some people who did what you are considering. They moved to the Philippines. Cost of living is very low, freedom is quite high, BUT services are lacking. Dude said you can ride your motorcycle without a helmet with a basket of chickens on the front and a goat balanced on the seat and the cops wont say a word. :p

I don't know. Used to be pretty good back in the day, but my granddaughters boyfriend, a Marine was stationed there for awhile, and he wasn't to thrilled to be there. Think I'll stick to my dream of the Caribbean, although Costa Rica, Belize, and Peru are pretty and pretty laid back.

Yes sir. Those old mountains are beautiful. You know, states like upper NY, Maine, Vermont, Connecticut, Illinois, Minnesota, etc., are so beautiful, especially in the fall of the year, just awesome. People, that's the problems, that give a state a bad name.

Honestly I knew a handful of Green Berets that after they retired moved to Costa Rica and love it.

Also, might want to check the gun laws where you're planning on going. That's the #1 reason I'm moving TO Tennessee, along with a whole list of other reasons. The freedoms you take for granted are a long-standing dream to people like me. Just sayin'.

The only problems with TN gun laws are up north you can with a permit carry a side arm completely legal obviously responsibly which we all did and do. Down here, there's a loop hole to that - its called "going armed" - look it up. Its something that can be used to make an arrest and its a gray area on purpose. Most likely it can be beat in court if you don't have any serious charges going along with it but you will pay for a lawyer and take time in court for enjoying your God given Constitutional Right. Infringement. Its what my other posts regarding the two bills are about that they are trying to push thru, to block the ability to shut that "going armed" business down which it had been until the Gov and Atty Gen decided not so fast. So this isn't paradise. Also you can't defend your property with a firearm legally, only lives, if youre outside. So if someone's blowing donuts on your 50,000.00 lawn too bad no guns allowed, rocksalt or not. Theres room for improvement here.

I will say this, I don't know of any instances where "going armed" has been abused, but if the ruling class in this state changes it will be. It needs to go. I also have heard and read about when people do damage to people's property in many cases the deputies look the other way if someone fires a couple of shot gun blasts out the front door like Biden said we can do to scare them off.
