A small pension and SS kick in not too far down the road. I have saved a decent amount and my family will likely leave me more than I deserve. I love America, but I pay almost $500 a month just in property taxes on my home now.

I am sick of traffic. Foreigners have invaded and are all around me. Land prices have ruined some of my hunting dreams. Traveling the country in a RV is not inexpensive. Perhaps I just want to regularly Facetime and fly home a couple of times a year to visit family. With a cell phone, internet, and good food, I might enjoy just moving around a bit.

I have no idea how health insurance works outside U.S., but there is healthcare. I think I can even get Ivervectin, testosterone, and Viagra without my physician giving me permission.

You're going to here some horror stories about the caribbean and other places. Crimes rates are very low compared to U.S. Exception to that is Haiti. Been to Turks and Caicos, St. Martin, St. Kitts, Dominica, Barbados, Puerto Rico, St Martin, Honduras, Belize, Playa Del Carmen, Cozumel, etc. and we always enjoyed our vacation. Now as anywhere, can happen.

But your not going to be living in a resort area....correct? How are these areas outside of where the tourist money is?
I have no idea, just asking? My guess is outside of the tourist vacation destinations is very different....not saying bad....just saying different.

Don't know about your county in Tn. But everything you buy is 10 cents tax on the dollar. Think it might be or close to the highest in the country. Several years ago we had a 55 dollar wheel tax added to get your tag sticker. Roads are still destroyed. And my property tax was voted 30 percent higher year before last. It won't be long it'll catch up to everywhere else. Add up 10 cents on the dollar and how much are you spending a year.

A lot of what you spend your money on is not subject to sales tax at all including services such as doctors, hair cutters, some or most labor, insurances, property taxes, healthcare, utilities. Groceries are at a reduced rate, and you don't pay the full 9.75% on larger purchases. For those that carry debt, there is no sales tax on those payments. My point is that compared to an income tax, 9.75% is low, and an income tax will apply to everything you earn minus some basic exemptions. Income taxes also seem politically easier to raise than sales taxes.

If it makes y'all feel better, I spend just about a thousand dollars on "town-approved" trash bags/stickers/fees alone per year. (Those are trash bags that we're supposed to put our trash bags in, so they can be picked up). We can get 7 bags for $45. Large item stickers (things too big for a trash bag) are $30 each and we're allowed one per week. Mattresses are $50 and you have to take them to the town area and put them in a container yourself. That's not even getting to the annual trash tax.

And that's just trash. Haven't even gotten to all the other taxes yet. My income tax is horrendous up here. Property and vehicle taxes are outrageous.

Gov't is gonna rob us all one way or another.
