replacing a broke decapping pin?

Ok so Ive broke 2 decapping pins in a set of RCBS .223 dies while decapping military brass so I bought a pack of small and large pins, my question is how do you keep the pins in the rod? I tried both sizes and both slide right out of the piece that holds it to the rod. Ive never replaced them before and figured $8 for 2 packs of pins was better than paying twice as much for a single die.

there are 2 different kinds depending on how old your dies are,the older ones are same from end to end and you tighten the expander ball and the pressure holds them in,,newer dies the pin has a ball on one end and you have to unscrew the expander ball all the way off and put the pin in the ball from inside and the ball on the pin keeps it from sliding out,,

if your breaking them sizing military brass with the primer crimp try adjusting the decaping pin up in the die where it will just barely stick through far enough to knock the primer out,,

Take a light and look into the cases to see what kind of primers you are dealing with, boxer or berdan.

I've used one of these for many years. Decap the cases with the Lee decapping tool and base before you resize them. After you do that, clean up the crimp with a reamer or primer pocket swage tool so you won't have difficulty seating the new primer. resize as usual. I've used one of these for many years, and it sure beats replacing decapping pins.

First make sure you're not trying to decap berdan-primed cases.
