I've been thinking about replacing the factory prop on my 90hp Yamaha and getting a stainless prop. I didn't realize that there were so many options. Right now I have a 17 pitch prop. I would like to go up to a 19 pitch for more speed and lift. The question now is, which prop to go with? I've been doing some research and read some great reviews about the Ballistic Stainless Prop from Michigan Wheel and Solas Titan. Anyone have some experience with these props? Also give some some other options on props that you have figured out through experience.

Opinions on props are many. Good pull out of the hole to get on plane quickly is more what I look for over top end speed. I went with a four blade Renegade 14.25 x 23 and lost about 3 MPH over the three blade but the pull out of the hole improvement was well worth it. Oh, edited to add, this was on a 150 Johnson on an 18.5 Stratos 283DC.

Changing from aluminum to SS may be all you need to do instead of changing pitch. The SS will not flex as bad as the aluminum. If you can get with someone to try a prop before you purchase it that's your best bet. Nothing worse than throwing away a couple hundred bucks and being worse off than you started.

Might also try bass boat centrals website. Chances are someone is running the same boat as you and can give you an run down on performance.

I was going to recommend the same as SilverFox. There is a world of knowledge on BBC. Either go to the forum and post the question under your boat brand or there is one specifically for setups. Read a few of the current posts, and you can tell rather quickly who the resident expert is in that area. I had an issue a few months ago with a trolling motor, and the trolling motor expert there diagnosed the issue first thing.

I read several threads on BBC about my exact same setup and the guys that switched to stainless 19 pitch are getting 3 to 7 mph more out of their 90hp Yamaha 4 strokes. Some of them were running 4 blades, but most were running 3.

I will say that I have a 90 horse yamaha and am looking to do the same thing. With that said I did look at props when I first got the boat and Dan's prop shop was nice enough to hold my cc and change props in and out for me to try and find the one I like the best. Long story but funds fell through and now I have forgotten what prop it was that I looked at. Moral of the story is that if you can find a good prop shop they may let you try them out. Secondly, make sure and pm me with what you decide on and the results because I am hoping that soon I will be able to buy myself one.

M70,
Text me tomorrow and remind me. I have a good friend that was a prop engineer for Yamaha in FL for years. he suggested one for my boat and it runs now at peak RPMs and the hole shot is awesome. I can be on plane in less than a boat's length.

Any word on that prop yet?
